Assessment and therapy process
We offer a very flexible service
Our values
With more than 84 years’ experience of working with people to achieve a better quality of life, we understand how necessary it is to feel heard, understood and respected as someone meeting a therapist for the first time. The process of developing a therapeutic relationship with a Psychologist, and to feel comfortable talking about sensitive and private issues, is a unique and transformational time.
By adopting a compassionate, patient, trusting and professional approach, we can ensure that those early sessions put you at ease so that you feel able to share your experiences and to work successfully with your Psychologist. We understand the challenges associated with finding a qualified Psychologist and the need to establish a trusting therapeutic rapport in the early stages. We pride ourselves on being optimistic, compassionate and kind. We are committed to working with people to facilitate and achieve change. Our clinical work is informed by theory and the latest evidence-base and we adhere to the NICE guidelines.
Our approach
Fundamental to our approach is the emphasis that we place upon the development of a safe, trustworthy and authentic therapeutic relationship. We believe in the importance of showing unconditional kindness, empathy and positive regard to every client that we work with. We hold an unfaltering belief and hope in peoples’ ability to achieve positive change and to overcome their difficulties, no matter how complex they are. We believe that it is possible for everyone to flourish and thrive.
We recognise the importance of identifying each person’s unique strengths and abilities and believe that the therapeutic process can be a place to share not just difficult experiences but positive experiences and humour also. As a therapist, building rapport and creating a safe, judgment-free and empathic space is at the core of what we do.
The Assessment
Therapy Sessions
Sessions are typically offered on a weekly basis but the scheduling can be tailored to suit your commitments. It is difficult to estimate how many sessions may be required until the assessment is completed; some people make sufficient progress after 8-10 sessions whist others need more depending on the nature and complexity of the difficulties that people have. Further, the more work (reading, writing, trying new things out etc) that people do in between sessions, the faster the progress they will see. We recognise the need to optimise positive results in therapy as quickly as possible given the cost of therapy as well as the need to achieve a better quality of life as soon as possible. We will guide you through a comprehensive and powerful process of personal development in order that you achieve the changes that you desire.
All interventions are evidence-based which means that a body of research has tested the outcomes that people achieve through rigorous scientific analyses.
How does online therapy work?
We have discovered that online therapy is as effective as face-to-face therapy and has many practical advantages: there is no need to travel to an office, thereby minimising the time needed for an appointment. In addition, by having appointments held in the familiar and comfortable surroundings of your home, you are likely to feel less anxious about meeting your therapist and better able to share your experiences in sessions. Sessions are usually conducted either via a Whatsapp videolink or a Zoom call.
Session time: Each session lasts for 45-50 minutes and are held on the hour.
